*Lovely, easy, roasted yams, beets, & quinoa with goat cheese!

Simple. Healthy. D-lish.

2 diced onions
3-4 beets (peeled and diced into one-inch chunks)
2-3 yams (peeled and diced into one-inch chunks)
2 -3 table spoons coconut oil
10 small radishes, trimmed and quartered (6 ounces)
4 ounces goat cheese, room temperature
2 teaspoons minced fresh green onions
1 cup of quinoa
thyme leaves to season
Salt & pepper to taste
fresh parsley sprigs for garnish

*Once yams, beets, and onions are chopped up, mix them with thyme, salt and coconut oil. Stick them on a baking sheet and roast at 385 degrees for 45 mins.
*Bring 1 cup of quinoa to a boil in two cups of water in a medium saucepan. Once boiling, cover, reduce heat to low, and simmer until quinoa is tender — about 15 minutes. (Remain covered until veggies are finished cooking).
*While the veggies are cooking, pulse radishes in a food processor (or grate / finely dice), and transfer to a medium bowl. Stir in goat cheese and green onions. After mixing these items together – stick in the fridge.
*Once veggies are done cooking, top them with goat cheese and garnish with parsley!
Voila !

Red Hot Chilli Peppers- Can’t Stop Music Video Feat. ‘one minute sculptures’ inspired by Erwin Wurm!!

As Tristan and I sometimes do, we have found ourselves once again googling music videos from bands we havn’t thought about or heard anything from in a while. Incidently, the chillis came to mind, and although I’ve never been overly stoked on this song – upon viewing the accompanying video I was overcome with gladness to see that the boys implemented Erwin Wurm’s one minute sculptures! (I must confess, I am pretty obsessed with these sculptures, or at least the idea of them – see below) So check out the vid! I really like how they alluded to the fantastic Mr. Wurm. I’m so impressed that this takes any adoration I ever had for Anthony Kiedis to another level. Kudos!

*Gotye – Somebody That I Used To Know (feat. Kimbra)

You’ll find that Gotye’s vids are pretty inventive across the board. I really dig this one! And the song too, which is always good. I’ve included a few still shots which to me seem just as dynamic as the entire vid. I love the simple concept, its actually quite theatrical and beautiful to watch. Somehow I can’t stop being reminded of Frida Kahlo’s self poraits when I watch this…maybe its the stripped-down, isolated self portrait thing? I dont know…but I really like that it reminds me of that work.

The Valentina Drag Ball !!!!

Events, Music

What an incredible night ! Proceeds of this smashing affair went to the Jasmine Valentina Scholarship Fund. It was so well-attended, and everyone was so happy and excited…What a beautiful party to honor the lovely Jasmine. Mine, and many other hearts were full of warmth dancing our hearts out and dressin’ up for a great cause. As you can see below, Sarah did it right and showed up as a dude, while I pursued a more over-the-top glam look (I couldn’t resist the opportunity). The other people in the pics are my dear friends; Lowell and Lindsay (drag w. blonde wig, and lovely glam lady w. blonde wig) and the other adorable red head is the one and ony Aoife. She was doing this adorable, hilarious little dance…it was so funny and cute. I wish I had a video!! Lastly, I had to include a photo of the lead singer and guitar player from Sleepy Panther – local Calgarian artist and former professor of mine, Richard Brown. He pulled of a slinky blue dress, and even wore heals through his entire set! -oh and thats a wig..
This band delivered a particularly epic performance and the crowd was soooo into it! Big ups to Richard and Rita..they were both in drag and did such a great job. I anticipate this event to be an annual one, how very exciting! Thank you to all who planned and put this on.

Musical Acts were:
Sleepy Panther
Cluster Fox
And of course the DJ stylings of J. Waddell
