*Days three & four*
Chelsea, Midtown, and Two Nights of Silliness.
So many galleries..so little time! Chelsea is full of high-end commercial dealers and we definitely had to pace ourselves accordingly. We took in a ridiculous amount of work, but I retained a handful of favorites. I really enjoyed: Hauser & Wirth (ft. Selections From Onnasch Collection, Trace The History Of New York’s Art Scene 1950-1970), Lehmann Maupin (ft. Alex Prager: Face in the Crowd), Marlborough Chelsea (ft. Davina Semo: Ruder Forms Survive), Casley Kaplan (ft. Jasonu Dodge: We are the Meeting), Andrew Kreps Gallery (ft. Hayley Tompkins: Space Kitchen), PACE Gallery (ft. Richard Tuttle: Looking for the Map), The Gagosian Chelsea (ft. Richard Serra: New Sculpture) and Mathew Marks Gallery (ft. Charles Ray, Ellsworth Kelly, and Jasper Johns). That’s quite a smattering, but nothing really, considering the vast volume of work we saw while traipsing around the Chelsea area.
Midtown galleries were less densely situated, but there were a few gems here and there. Graduate Advisor\Professional Navigator, Paul, was super helpful once again and without him we would never have been able to find half the galleries located amid Midtown high rises — Gagosian Madison Avenue, Mary Boone, etc.
Needless to say, nights were a blast with my little Uvic crew in the big city! Much laughter and much dancing. Everyone rocked karaoke pretty hard (kudos to Katie and Eeth for being over-the-top and fabulous blowing everyone away with their song choices and epic voices). We also had a fabulous evening at our hostel just being goofy and enjoying each other’s company outside of school. So fun!
