Last night Andy spoke on the rather heavy topic of eternity. Here are my notes! That said… If you are planning on reading what I’ve jotted down below, please tune in here to listen/watch! I had a difficult time keeping up, and honestly I haven’t done Andy justice with this post. Near the end of the sermon he cites a lot of scripture that should accompany what I’ve written here. 🙂
-What you believe about eternity will determine how you live today.
It is beautiful how God has done everything at the right time. He has put a sense of eternity in people’s minds. Yet, mortals still can’t grasp what God is doing from the beginning to the end of time. (Ecclesiastes 3:11 GWT)
Eternity begins with death
-what do we know about death?
Death is certain
People die once, and after that they are judged. Likewise, Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of humanity, and after that he will appear a second time. This time he will not deal with sin, but he will save those who eagerly wait for him. (Hebrews 9:27, 28 GWT)
-Now is the time for you to learn how to connect yourself to him. Your sins have already been taken care of.
-People are trapped in fear about death and that fear is not from God.
-Be free and be at liberty to embrace your life and your death with joy.
The soul and the body separate
Don’t be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Instead, fear the one who can destroy both body and soul in hell. (Matthew 10:28 GWT)
-Jesus is calling us out of the life of the body and into something else.
-Some of us live in this body and for this body.
Jesus said to her, “I am the one who brings people back to life, and I am life itself. Those who believe in me will live even if they die. Everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe that?” (John 11:25, 26 GWT)
I will face judgment
People die once, and after that they are judged. (Hebrews 9:27 GWT)
-Judgment is not about man but about you and God.
-You will stand before him either on the merit of the good and the bad or you will stand before him in the shadow of Jesus.
-There are two places where people are judged: The Great white throne judgement (for the unbeliever) and The judgment seat of Christ (for the believer)
I saw a large, white throne and the one who was sitting on it. The earth and the sky fled from his presence, but no place was found for them. (Revelation 20:11 GWT)
-Who do you belong to? Do you belong to you, or do you belong to Jesus?
Why do you criticize or despise other Christians? Everyone will stand in front of God to be judged. (Romans 14:10 GWT)
