This weekend was exceptional as far as church goes as Adore’s much anticipated annual Conference brought some great insights! Today Elijah Waters of Seattle’s City Church spoke. His talk titled
Lets be reasonable touched on Romans 12:1
Brothers and sisters, because of God’s compassion toward us, I encourage you to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, dedicated to God and pleasing to him. This kind of worship is appropriate for you. (Romans 12:1 GWT)
Elaborating on this notion of appropriateness, Waters pointed out that serving and living for the Lord is merely a response to his sacrifice. A reasonable response, NOT a requirement. Rather, a logical reciprocation of what has been so generously gifted to us.
From this, he also spoke on the weight that shame plays in our lives:
“Shame is more than a feeling, it is an identity that we take on based on our past sin”
-Our view point is always on one of three things: our sin, ourselves, or our savior.
-Be Savior conscious, not sin conscious!
-Jesus did not intend for you to view your life as a constant view of your sin. He paid for you to have the best view possible. A view of his mercy, goodness, and love.
–You decide if your past is going to bring guilt to you, or glory to God!
A huge thanks to all who volunteered this weekend and traveled to Victoria to make this event as life-changing as it was. It’s more than a moment, it’s a movement!
